It is through the encounter in 1950 by Bill Bowerman, track coach and Phil Knight, accounting student and semi-distance runner, the Nike brand was born in 1973.

They decide to band together to engage in the shoe industry.

They seek first a logo for their brand Nike (a reference to Nike, Greek goddess of victory). They use Carolyn Davidson, a young student talent in graphic arts.

She opts for a "point in reverse", symbolizing one of the wings of the Greek goddess.

A logo called "Swoosh" by fans of the brand.
